When online home value websites became all the rage, a couple of clients warned me: "Paola, you're going to be replaced by a computer!"
Naturally, I went straight online and looked up my own house. Wow. It said my home was worth a lot more than I would have guessed, and a lot more than any sane appraiser would ever say. A little off, sure, but hey, it told me I was richer. I'll take it.
Then I looked at the aerial map. I could see my street, the oak trees, the park. But could it tell me how much care my neighbors put into their gardens? How well the homes were built? Whether something nobody wants is about to be built down the road? Nope.
A computer can give you numbers. It can't look you in the eye. The right person will put the phone down, listen to what you really want, and tell you about the hidden potential of a house and the projects around it that could shape its future. They help you see what an untrained eye can't.
Real estate is all about the details. So take your time, do your research, and find the most knowledgeable, most caring professional you can. Let them know what you need. The right one will go out of their way to find the best deal of all, just for you.
And that is an investment all by itself.
