CLEARWATER – Michael “Frenchy” Preston, owner and namesake of a familiar restaurant chain in Clearwater Beach, increased his market share last week by donating $350,000 for naming rights to a rooftop terrace of the Capitol Theatre.

Frenchy’s Terrace, which will be managed by Ruth Eckerd Hall’s food service provider Ovations, will serve several of the chain’s signature dishes.

At a press conference at Water’s Edge last week, Preston said, “I’m working with a legend now,” referring to Ruth Eckerd Hall Chief Executive 0fficer Zev Buffman.

The $350,000 gift to Ruth Eckerd Hall will go directly into Capitol’s coffers, as will proceeds from food sales at Frenchy’s Terrace, Buffman said. The city-owned theater is managed by Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Frenchy’s Terrace is expected to open when the theater reopens in December.

The building located downtown on Cleveland Street is undergoing a $7.6 million renovation. In a plan to re-energize downtown, the city agreed last year to fund $7.1 million toward the project.

Preston has operated four restaurants on Clearwater Beach for more than three decades. He acquired a fifth location, the Island Outpost, in Dunedin last June.
