If you have a spare $17.5 million you could own what may be PinellasCounty’s priciest mansion, a waterfront estate built in 1915 with 10 bedrooms, its own bell tower and a 5,000-square-foot guest house.

Last week, Clearwater businessman Hugh Fuller Jr. listed for sale his 23,159-square-foot mansion just off downtown Clearwater. In the city’s tony Harbor Oaks neighborhood, its location at 802 Druid St. South sits on a bluff overlooking ClearwaterBay surrounded by other megamansions.

Behind its walls is a 3.4-acre estate with a two-story Mediterranean-style white and green main residence, boasting 10 bedrooms, 15 full and nine half bathrooms, a theater room, music studio and trophy room. Outside, its grounds offer red brick pathways that weave through the property and a bell tower and gazebo overlooking the bay. Its recreational offerings include two pools, a tennis court and basketball court.

If the estate fetches anywhere near the list price, it may be the most expensive home ever sold in PinellasCounty. A list provided by the Pinellas County Property Appraiser’s office only goes back to 2007, but shows the next highest-priced home having sold for $10.25 million in Belleair in 2008. It’s not unusual for such homes to remain on the market for some time however, said Rafal Wazio, a PinellasCounty real estate agent who also has listed mansions for sale. A home he has listed for sale nearby on Druid Street is listed at $12.9 million and has been for sale for about two years, Wazio said.

Little information was available this week about Fuller. According to county land records, he bought the estate from the British former Formula One racecar driver Nigel Mansell in 1997.

He couldn’t be reached for comment and the real estate agent listing the property, Sophia Vasilaros, would only describe Fuller as a successful businessman. However, he’s known to be an avid powerboat racer and steers a powerboat for the energy drink company Cintron Beverage Group of Philadelphia. – (813) 259-7865
